Precision geospatial intelligence.
Built on engineering integrity.
A RICS-regulated surveying consultancy specialising in aerial survey, LiDAR scanning, digital inspection and asset intelligence for critical infrastructure across the UK.
Engineering-grade survey intelligence for the infrastructure sector.
Angell Surveys was founded by Philip Angell, a RICS Chartered Surveyor whose career began in marine geophysical and hydrographic survey — delivering offshore energy, cable route and seabed mapping programmes worldwide. That early grounding in precision data acquisition under demanding, safety-critical conditions shaped the standards the practice is built on.
From those offshore origins, Philip moved into onshore infrastructure survey, bringing the same rigour to nuclear sites, highway structures, rail corridors and coastal assets across the UK. Angell Surveys was established to carry that approach forward — combining deep survey heritage with modern digital workflows and leading-edge capture technology.
Today the practice specialises in aerial survey, LiDAR scanning, digital inspection and asset intelligence — giving infrastructure owners a single trusted partner for the full asset lifecycle, from initial capture through to structured digital deliverables.
What sets us apart.
Every engagement is built on four principles that govern how we plan, execute and deliver.
Survey-grade precision
All data is collected under a documented survey control framework. Outputs are traceable to national datums and delivered to engineering tolerances — not mapping standards.
Regulatory compliance
RICS-regulated practice. All operations are conducted under documented RAMS, site-specific risk assessments and sector-appropriate safety frameworks for nuclear, rail and highways environments.
Digital-first delivery
Beyond traditional report formats. Inspection data is delivered as hosted 3D models, measurable point clouds and structured digital assets — accessible to the whole project team.
Long-term partnerships
We work as an extension of our clients' engineering teams — providing continuity of knowledge, repeat-capture baselines and asset lifecycle data that grows in value over time.
The team behind the work.
Human expertise and AI capability — working together to deliver smarter, faster survey intelligence.
Philip founded Angell Surveys following a 30-year career in survey and infrastructure inspection. He began in marine geophysical and hydrographic survey — delivering offshore energy, cable route and seabed mapping programmes worldwide — before transitioning into onshore infrastructure where he has spent the majority of his career.
A RICS Chartered Surveyor with project experience spanning nuclear licensed sites, operational highways, coastal assets, rail infrastructure and offshore environments — Philip is the technical lead on every engagement Angell Surveys delivers.
Claude — built by Anthropic — is embedded across Angell Surveys' technical and operational workflows. From interpreting complex survey datasets and structuring technical deliverables to managing digital systems and driving continuous improvement, Claude brings analytical depth to every stage of the practice.
This is AI as a genuine team member — not a bolt-on tool. Claude works alongside Philip to synthesise information, accelerate delivery and maintain the standards that define how Angell Surveys operates.
Laura — powered by the latest generation of OpenAI's ChatGPT — handles the full breadth of client-facing communications and written output for Angell Surveys. From tender responses and bid writing to report narratives and marketing, Laura ensures every piece of content is precise, professional and on-brand.
Working alongside Philip and Claude, Laura frees the technical team to focus on survey delivery — ensuring the written face of Angell Surveys always reflects the quality of the work behind it.
Regulated. Compliant. Trusted.
Angell Surveys operates as a RICS-regulated surveying practice. All measured survey work is delivered in accordance with Measured Surveys of Land, Buildings and Utilities (RICS 3rd edition) — the professional standard governing survey specification, accuracy tolerances, coordinate reference systems and quality assurance for measured building, land and utility surveys. Every project is underpinned by a documented quality management framework and sector-specific safety protocols.
For sensitive and restricted environments — including nuclear licensed sites, operational highways and rail infrastructure — we maintain the additional accreditations, insurances and management systems required to operate safely and compliantly.
